Summary

The local government, as a form of decentralization of authorities, represents one of the main principles of democracy in all modern societies. Cooperation between local governments is very important and is one of the main steps of local and regional development.

Inter-municipal cooperation is stipulated by the Law on Local government because of better public services, quality of life and more efficient management of the important jurisdiction. Its importance is expressed through single-staged local government and this part does not include institutional and required forms of cooperation. Connecting communities is one of the main methods for overcoming problems of their size which is clearly evident in our country and there are differences by every parameter. Strengthening connections between municipalities and better cooperation can be an instrument of equal development in our Republic which is currently quite uneven. However, Republic of Srpska has opposite tendencies when we talk about inter-municipal cooperation and this problem should be addressed more seriously.

Key words: The local government; Аuthorities; Cooperation; Basic stage; Municipality; Ddevelopment.
